Wild Spore is about growing specialty mushrooms sustainably, chemical free, and direct to the customer.

We are two families with a vision, and who want to put our collective experience into a purposeful, long term endeavour.

Wild Spore was spawned when Caleb and Lee realised an opportunity to grow and supply fresh specialty mushrooms to Launceston and beyond, particularly mushrooms grown using sustainable and organic methods. They also realised that most cafés dispose of their waste coffee grounds to landfill. Caleb and Lee partnered with a number of cafes around Launceston to collect their coffee grounds, and conducted extensive trials growing specialty mushrooms on the waste product. After having initial success, a business plan was developed, and Wild Spore was launched.

Although mushrooms are our focus, we are not just about mushrooms.

Our vision is about establishing farming enterprises that are sustainable, direct to customer, and low capital start-up. The focus is on engaging with the community in which we live, and providing a space to mentor and train aspiring farmers in both life skills and holistic business skills. We will measure our success when our model has been replicated through our training, either locally, or where there is an imminent need in developing countries.
