The Welcome Centre is an initiative of Welcome to Australia, providing support to people seeking asylum, refugees & new arrivals through English classes, volunteer & work experience opportunities, emergency relief and friendship.
100 Drayton Street, Bowden (corner Hawker Street and Drayton Street)
Monday: By appointment 10 - 4pm
Tuesdays: Drop in Centre open 12 – 4pm
4pm – 6pm Chai, Conversationand coaching social program (to practice conversational English and receive homework help etc– all welcome)
Wednesdays: closed
Thursdays: Drop in Centre open 10 – 4pm
English classes currently under review
6:30pm every second Thursday : Community Dinner – bring a plate of food to share. Everyone is welcome!
If you would like to donate to our food pantry we always need items such as rice, black tea, sugar, olive & vegetable oil, pasta & noodles, tomato paste, hand wash, detergent, toiletries and tinned beans and lentils. If you are unable to bring these items to the Centre you are welcome to purchase us a voucher or go to our website and donate specifically to the Welcome Centre https://www.welcometoaustralia.org.au/
We also welcome good quality donations of household goods, appliances, bedding and blankets. If you have large items, such as furniture and whitegoods to donate please go to the Facebook group "Free for Asylum Seekers and Refugees".
We are unable to take donations of clothing, but would love for you to consider supporting the work of the Australian Refugee Association op-shop (304 Henley Beach Road, Underdale) or Lutheran Community Care op-shop (309 Prospect Road, Blair Athol).
